A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once it has fused with the bone, a crown, bridge or full-arch prosthesis is attached to it. Implants are the closest thing modern dentistry has to a natural tooth: they look, feel and function like your own teeth, they do not rely on neighbouring teeth for support, and they preserve the bone that would otherwise shrink after tooth loss. At DentReal in Selçuklu, Konya, every implant case is planned digitally and carried out by a team that handles both the surgical and the prosthetic stages in-house.
Who is a candidate for dental implants?
Most adults who have lost one or more teeth are suitable for implants. The main requirements are healthy gums, enough bone to hold the implant, and general health that allows minor surgery. Age itself is not a barrier; we place implants for patients in their twenties and in their eighties.
Implants are the treatment of choice in these situations:
- A single missing tooth, where an implant avoids grinding down the healthy neighbouring teeth that a bridge would require.
- Several missing teeth, replaced with implant-supported bridges instead of a removable partial denture.
- Loose or uncomfortable dentures, which can be stabilised with two to four implants or replaced entirely with a fixed All-on-4 or All-on-6 bridge.
- Teeth that cannot be saved because of deep decay, fracture or advanced gum disease, where extraction and immediate implant placement can be planned in one visit.
Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and untreated gum disease reduce the success rate, so we address these first. Where bone is limited, grafting, sinus lifting or zygomatic implants make treatment possible.
How implant treatment works at DentReal
- Consultation and 3D imagingWe take a panoramic X-ray and a 3D CBCT tomography scan. The scan shows bone height and width, the position of the nerve in the lower jaw and the sinus floor in the upper jaw, so the implant size and position are decided before surgery.
- Treatment plan and written quoteYour dentist explains the number of implants, whether any grafting is needed, the type of final restoration and the timeline. You receive an itemised quote and approve the plan before anything begins.
- Implant placementThe implant is placed under local anaesthesia in a sterile surgical setting. A single implant takes around 30 to 45 minutes. Sedation is available for anxious patients. Most people return to normal activities the next day.
- Healing (osseointegration)Over two to four months the bone bonds to the titanium surface. Depending on the case, a temporary tooth can be fitted immediately so you are never without a tooth in a visible area.
- Final restorationOur prosthodontist takes digital impressions and designs the abutment and crown. Zirconium crowns are our standard for their strength and natural appearance. The crown is fitted, the bite is checked and adjusted, and you leave with written aftercare instructions.
Implant systems and materials
We work with established, internationally certified implant brands with long-term clinical documentation and worldwide availability, which matters if you ever need a component replaced in your home country. Implants are grade 4 titanium or titanium alloy with a surface treated to speed up bone integration. The abutment that connects the implant to the crown is titanium or zirconia, and the crown itself is monolithic or layered zirconia matched to the shade of your natural teeth.
| Situation | Typical solution | Visits to Konya |
|---|---|---|
| One missing tooth | Single implant + zirconium crown | 2 (surgery, then crown after healing) |
| Two to four missing teeth in a row | Two implants + implant-supported bridge | 2 |
| All teeth missing in one jaw | All-on-4 or All-on-6 fixed bridge | 2, provisional teeth on the first visit |
| Severe bone loss in the upper jaw | Sinus lift or zygomatic implants | 2 to 3 |
Timeline for international patients
Implant treatment normally requires two visits to Konya. The first visit takes four to seven days: examination, imaging, any extractions, implant placement and, where possible, temporary teeth. The second visit, usually three to four months later, takes five to seven days for impressions, try-in and fitting of the final crowns or bridge.
Where the bone quality allows, we can load implants immediately with a provisional restoration so that you leave the first visit with fixed teeth. Your dentist will tell you at the planning stage whether this is realistic for you. Between visits our team stays in touch on WhatsApp.
Aftercare and how long implants last
Dental implants are designed to last for decades. Published long-term studies report survival rates above 95 percent at ten years, and many patients keep their implants for life. The crown on top may need replacement after 15 to 20 years of wear.
Longevity depends on three things you control: daily cleaning with a brush and interdental brushes, professional cleaning once or twice a year (which your local dentist can do), and not smoking. Implants cannot decay, but the gum and bone around them can become inflamed if plaque builds up, so hygiene matters as much as with natural teeth.
What you receive at DentReal: a written treatment plan, an implant passport listing the brand, size and position of each implant, digital copies of your X-rays and scans, and aftercare instructions in English. This documentation lets any dentist in the world maintain your implants.
Cost of dental implants in Konya
The cost of an implant depends on the implant brand, whether bone grafting or a sinus lift is needed, and the type of crown or bridge. Because DentReal is a city clinic serving local patients rather than a tourist package operation, our prices reflect Konya's cost of living, which is lower than in Istanbul or the coastal resorts, and considerably lower than in Western Europe.
Send us a panoramic X-ray or a few photos on WhatsApp and we will reply with a realistic estimate. After your examination in the clinic you receive a fixed, itemised written quote with no hidden extras.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is dental implant surgery painful?
The procedure itself is done under local anaesthesia, so you feel pressure but not pain. Mild swelling and discomfort for two to three days afterwards are normal and controlled with standard painkillers. Most patients say it was easier than they expected. Sedation is available for nervous patients.
How long does the whole implant process take?
From implant placement to the final crown, usually three to five months. The waiting period is the time the bone needs to bond to the implant. In suitable cases a temporary tooth is fitted on the day of surgery, so you are not left with a gap.
Can implants be placed on the same day as an extraction?
Often, yes. Immediate implant placement into a fresh extraction socket saves months of healing time and preserves bone. It depends on the absence of infection and on the bone around the socket, which we assess on the CBCT scan.
What if I do not have enough bone?
Bone loss is common after teeth have been missing for years. Options include bone grafting, sinus lifting in the upper jaw, shorter or narrower implants, and in severe cases zygomatic implants anchored in the cheekbone. Our surgical dentist will explain which option suits your anatomy.
